Before we begin, this is the first official Belle diary entry in our Storybook Chronicles series — a quiet look into her thoughts before everything changed.
Belle’s Diary – Entry One:
“The Village Never Changes”
Dear Diary,
Sometimes I wonder if the whole world is just this one dusty village, spinning in endless circles. The same faces. The same gossip. The same girls eyeing Gaston like he’s some kind of prince. (He’s not. A prince would read a book, at the very least.)
Today, Papa showed me his newest invention — a contraption with more gears than sense, but he’s hopeful. I love that about him. While others see him as odd, I see a mind that dares to imagine something different. I think I inherited that from him — the urge to dream beyond these hills.
At the market, I returned my book to Monsieur D’Arque. He sighed when he saw it again. I’ve read it at least ten times, but there’s comfort in those pages. Adventure, far-off places, daring sword fights… and someone who sees me for who I truly am.
Sometimes I wonder if such a place — such a person — even exists for someone like me.
Until then, I’ll keep turning pages.
Yours,
Belle
